Hi Everyone,

Well here I was, on the phone, trying to hear what the other person was saying with 3 of my darling grandchildren having races up and down my hallway with bikes and scooters and of course shouting ‘cause you can’t have a race without yelling.

My first reaction was to pick up the TV remote and turn them down! Yes, I know it sounds crazy but I’m sure we all have crazy moments! When I realised that it wasn’t working I called out, “Children, be quiet! I’m on the phone!”

When I thought about that the other day, I wondered how many times we miss what God is trying to tell us because of all the noise that surrounds us. So many distractions, situations that come up, worries that fill our minds that even if the HOLY SPIRIT was trying to give us the solution to the issue, we would not be able to hear it.

We are so surrounded by noise on the road, at our work or school, at the shops even in our own home with family, TV, radio, computers, washing machines etc. By the time things quieten down at night we are so tired that we just fall asleep.

God wants to speak to us, He wants to help us, He wants to give us the answers and solutions to what we are struggling with and He does it through the HOLY SPIRIT, but we need to quieten down to hear it clearly.

In Hebrews 1:1-3 it tells us that in the Old Testament God spoke to people through His prophets, then Jesus appeared and He spoke to us through Jesus.

Jesus told them that He said only what He heard the Father say in John 8:28.

Now God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit who lives in us. (1 Corinthians 6:19 + 2 Corinthians 6:16).

Sometimes it’s through someone or a dream, vision, a song or mainly the WORD. We will have a quickening on the inside which is the HOLY SPIRIT saying, ‘This is for you.’

In John 14:16-26 (Read) Jesus said that when He was gone the Holy Spirit would come and remind us of what the WORD said.

We all need to have a quiet time daily, just resting and listening in God’s Presence. We need to find a place, a time of our own, alone, to be refreshed and revived, to receive wisdom and answers to whatever we need. We have many examples in the Bible of how God spoke when they were alone.

Isaiah in Isaiah 6:1, Jacob in Genesis 32:24, Moses in Exodus 3:1, Paul in prison many times Ephesians 3:1, John on Patmos – Revelations 1:9, Peter – Acts 10:9

Even Jesus felt He needed time alone with the Father, so how much more do we! Matthew 14:23, Mark 1:35, 6:46, Luke 22:41

Well, here I was surrounded by all this noise and couldn’t hear anything that the other person on the phone was saying. So what did I do? I went into my room, shut the door and suddenly it all sounded so clear.

So what is distracting you from hearing clearly? Perhaps you need to go to your room or find a quiet place and shut our all the noise, then just listen quietly, You’ll be amazed at how much God wants to speak to you. (John 10:3-4 + 27)

I wonder if He’s saying to us today “Children, be quiet!”

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears and listens to and heads My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will eat with him, and He will eat with Me.” (Revelations 3:20)
